We asked our president, Natasha Sanford, to share her experience in Drury Tri Delta and how it has shaped her into the person she is today. Here is Tri Delta story:
If you asked me in high school if I would join a sorority in
college, I would have said, “Eh, I don’t know, I’ll probably check it out,” but
I would have never known the joy and life-changing experience it would bring
me.
I went through recruitment with open eyes, not knowing one
sorority from the next. When recruitment
began I was so excited to meet everyone and just learn about each chapter and
meet people from all different backgrounds. I remember walking into the Tri
Delta suite and just feeling the love and sisterhood around everyone in the
room. All the girls were so welcoming, and the ones I had met before
recruitment came up to me and made me feel so at home. Even though I loved Tri
Delta, I kept an open mind during the entire week. I wanted to make sure I was
making the right decision because it would last forever.
When Bid Day came I could not have been happier. I ran
outside to my new family and was beyond excited to begin the new chapter in my
life. My semester as a new member was one of the best semesters at Drury, and
it continued to my second semester when I was given the role as Social
Chairman. I had a blast planning our social events with other chapters and
dances. I learned a lot about communication and the dynamic of our chapter.
During my Sophomore year I was slated into Licensing
Chairman and I got to design lots of cute clothes for our chapter to represent
our letters on campus. At the beginning
of my Junior year I got very invested in the chapter and wanted to help with
all that I could. I spent more time with my sisters and got to know them on a
much deeper level. Growing up as an only child I never had brothers and sisters
to turn to when things got tough, and I felt like I had finally found those
people that I could truly call family.
Mid Junior year my sisters saw something in me that I didn’t
see in myself, and they slated me as Collegiate Chapter President. It was that
moment that I knew all my hard work and love for this chapter was beaming off
of me onto others. I have never felt so loved and honored to hold this position
in the Delta Kappa Chapter.
Every chapter will have its ups and downs, but it is
sisterhood that unites us all together and reminds us why we are Tri Delta and
what we stand for. We all share a common entity and that is what is truly
special. Working with St. Jude has been one of the many gifts Tri Delta has
given me. Seeing the children smiling with joy brings me so much love and makes
me realize that what I am doing is making a difference.
Not only have I found my best friends within Tri Delta, but
I have friends in other sororities as well. Drury Greek life has allowed me to
make friends in other organizations. We do many events throughout the school
year: socials, philanthropy events, and Greek Week. We interact with all of the
other organizations and have a blast.
As the President of the Delta Kappa Chapter, I wish the best
for every woman here at Drury. Whether you are involved in other organizations,
your major, or outside activities, I want you to make the best of them and take
every opportunity to the fullest. Never think your dedication for something is
going unnoticed. Someone always sees the love and care you put into your
work. There is something for everyone in
college, whether that be a sorority or not, you will find your niche.
Tri Delta is just one of the many things I am involved with
at Drury. I am an Advertising and Public Relations major, serve as the Vice
President of Communication on the Student Government Association, and work as a
Writer/Editor in the Residence Life Office. All of these things have shaped me
into the woman I am today and I am so thankful for every single one of them.
A sorority is what you make it. If you put in the time, compassion,
and effort into Tri Delta, you will get the compassion, love, and care from
your sisters. I know that I can call each and every one of my sisters when I am
feeling sad, and they will be over to my house with chocolate and Grey’s
Anatomy in a second.
I am extremely thankful for the opportunity Tri Delta has
given me. I am very humbled by the experience of being President and am looking
forward to what the rest of this year will bring. Just remember, “Everything
happens for a reason.”
